Learn more about our work
Equus Striping is making a positive impact in the Washington, D.C. community by providing top-quality pavement marking services that enhance safety and accessibility for all. Our team is committed to creating clear and precise markings on roads, bike lanes, parking lots, and other public spaces, making it easier for drivers and pedestrians alike to navigate the city with ease.
Not only do we make a career of creating spaces to play and helping the community drive, ride, and walk safer but we also volunteer our time to feed our community during the Thanksgiving season! Additionally, we are dedicated to empowering individuals who have faced barriers in the past with exciting employment opportunities. Through our work and community activism, we are building a brighter future for our community, one line at a time.

Why do we StreetFeast?
VP of Operations, Marcellus Shelton, is truly the heart and soul(food) of Equus. An avid fisherman, for a decade, he’d single-handedly catch, cook and serve around 100 fish dinners (along with all the toe-curling soul food sides) for the homeless on Thanksgiving. These days, all of Team Equus joins in to continue Shelton’s Thanksgiving tradition.
How do we StreetFeast?
We dish up all the Thanksgiving favorites – turkey, ham, mac & cheese, collard greens, stuffing, and pumpkin pie to the people of SE DC – setting up and serving straight out of our Equus truck. In our first couple of years, we’ve had about 50 people each year.
StreetFeast 2022 was held on Thanksgiving Day on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE and Milwaukee Place SE, Washington, D.C. We served approximately 70 Thanksgiving meals to our local homeless community.
We could not pull off StreetFeast at this scale on our own. Each year volunteers and donors help us create an ever bigger impact in our community.

Parade Your Stripe: Marcellus’s Blue Line
Marcellus Shelton, VP of Operations, experienced the proudest moment of his life back in 2009 – striping the blue line down the Inaugural Parade path for President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama.
Mt. Royal Intermediate School - Pro Bono Project
The Mt. Royal Intermediate School needed some Equus – style assistance. The school was having major safety issues around the pickup/drop-off of students – causing their parking lot to shut down. The school’s PTA had been working with the MICA School of Design (conveniently directly across the street from the school) and the Baltimore Department of Transportation (MDOT) to find a solution. The project had been in the works for 18 months, including community input and pathway design ideas from MICA students, but they’d been hitting roadblocks and delaying the project.
Equus was able to quickly show them how a few alterations and additions to the parking lot would improve traffic flow, forcing (through clear markings) the cars to follow a strict pattern of movement and immediately eliminating the problem. Equus helped secure and donated paint matching the school colors, and helped with the installation of the pedestrian pathway (designed by the MICA students). The results were a beautiful, clear path; making the pickup and drop-off process a breeze. Know an organization that could use some pro bono magic, Equus, style?
